Executive Director, Next 100 Coalition

The mission of the Next 100 Coalition is to connect, amplify, and support the leadership of historically marginalized communities in the administration and stewardship of waterways, lands, ocean, and coasts to advance community prosperity and resilience. It envisions healthy waterways, lands, ocean, and coasts that are connected to and reflect the racial and cultural diversity of the country and their administration and stewardship demonstrates and values the myriad ways people connect to and care for the environment.

 

The Next 100 Coalition (Next 100) was established in 2016 as a collaborative national network of Black, Indigenous, Asian, Hispanic, Latino and all people of color leaders from community-centered conservation, outdoor recreation, environmental education, public health, and environmental justice organizations. The Coalition is rooted in the acknowledgement that the very existence of current land and ocean conservation systems are predicated on chattel slavery and settler colonialism. It works to achieve a shared vision of a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and just lands and ocean conservation by building a movement that centers the leadership, and values the lives, histories, cultural and spiritual connections of Black, Indigenous, Asian, Hispanic, Latino, people of color, LGBTQIA+, disabled people/people with disabilities and all those communities who have been historically marginalized.

 

The Next 100 is hiring an inaugural Executive Director and seeks a leader who is passionate about its mission and will be the catalyst to accelerate the development of this early-stage organization. This individual has experience working to address complex systemic and societal issues and understands the importance of collaboration in all facets or stages of problem solving. They have demonstrated both strategic agility and the ability to execute plans to achieve tangible outcomes.  

 

This experienced manager will create a culture that fosters vibrant teamwork, defines and establishes quality work operations and processes standards, centers equity, and engenders mutual respect while accelerating progress on Next 100’s outcomes. This is a high-profile position, requiring a dynamic and persuasive individual who will motivate and mobilize others to support Next 100’s collaborative impact.

 

This person must demonstrate success in cultivating relationships with a diversity of constituents representing many different perspectives including individuals, members, community groups, faith-based organizations, corporations, foundations, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. This individual excels at building relationships and has experience raising private contributions.  

 

Candidates will bring financial and business management skills to Next 100. An understanding of business principles applied to a nonprofit organization, particularly a background in scaling sustainable program growth, promoting continuous improvement of program quality, and revenue enhancement and diversification, is required.

 

Candidates must be committed to and excited about building a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and just lands and ocean conservation movement. This individual is tenacious, able to balance multiple priorities and is highly focused but adaptable. They may have prior experience in the nonprofit, corporate, and/or government sectors that equips them to excel in an early-stage organization where no two days will be the same. They have experience sharing power and collaborating with a diversity of internal and external constituencies to achieve results.  This person flourishes in complex environments and loves working with diverse communities and stakeholders representing many lived experiences and perspectives.

 

This individual knows how to balance being results and relationship oriented. They will demonstrate success in leading financially accountable and sustainable projects, programs, and/or organizations. They will also have experience building durable relationships and collaborating with communities, program participants, partners, policymakers, donors, stakeholders, and constituencies. This person must have strong verbal and written communication skills that translate into effective communications across a variety of platforms.

The salary range for this position annually is between $130,000 and $150,000 and will be commensurable with experience. The Executive Director will collaborate with the Next 100 Board to develop a comprehensive benefits package that reflects the values of this organization.  It is anticipated that employees will have access to a robust health care package which include medical (including trans-affirming care), dental and vision benefits and opportunity for Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account. Benefits will also include paid time off for vacation, family (including but not limited to parental leave), mental and physical health, religious holidays, civic duties and bereavement, as well as the opportunity to participate in a retirement plan.
